Shama

Where It Began

We (Bernie and Jake) met at a Woljeongsa Monastery last summer in the remote mountains of South Korea. We were guests in a temple preserved for over 1000 years, two creative minds following the footsteps of those before us, striving to tame our ADHD minds. Meditation wasn’t easy for either of us. But it helped more than any trendy apps or prescriptions ever had.

Out of that experience blossomed a deep friendship, and then an idea: what if the things we wore could help us live more intentionally? What if clothing could support practice? Apparel that doesn't just look good, but reminds us of our intention to grow? And what if it could uplift the temples and artists who inspired us?

We spent the next year drawing, sewing, studying, visiting monasteries, learning from artists, and meditating. This is what came out of it.

What is Shama?

Shama (शम) is a Sanskrit word for calm, equanimity, and peaceful abiding. It speaks to the spirit of stillness that lives beneath the noise. The kind of stillness we found on retreat. The kind we try to carry into the everyday.

The Mindful Hoodie

We designed the hoodie as something you could sit in, walk in, stretch in, and live in. A garment for people who practice, reflect, and move with intention.

Each piece features laser-etched artwork from Buddhist temples and monk-artists. You choose a design. That design is tied to a real place and real people. We split each sale's proceeds directly to the temple or organization that created the design and inspired many others like us.

This is wearable art, grounded in relationship. Not mass-produced prints. Not reinterpretation. Direct collaboration.
